Cross-selling | The benefits to you and your customer
What helps people, helps business!
You've just made a sale, time for a happy dance!
But wait...
The mug your customer chose for Auntie Sarah's birthday is absolutely perfect, but they also need to find a card and some wrapping paper and to be honest they'd rather be sat with a cuppa watching Corrie on catch up!
You've navigated the difficult part - your customer has found your store, loves what you have created and has placed their order...But could it be better for both you and your customer?
In short, yes!
By adding complementary products that enhance what your customers buy, you're giving them a better overall experience...This can result in higher revenue sales and returning customers.
Consider offering a personalised card and coordinating wrapping paper. Maybe look at a novelty badge or fridge magnet as a low cost 'top up' gift...Oh and don't forget to highlight the fact that adding all these items to their original order won't incur any additional postage costs...After all, everyone loves a little bit of free!
Even better...How about you offer a service where you beautifully gift wrap the mug in a themed paper, hand write the coordinating card with their chosen message - then ship the package off to Auntie Sarah's home in plenty of time for her birthday!
The end result...Your customer is happy, they have freed up some precious time, Auntie Sarah's birthday is sorted for another year and the customer has (hopefully) added your shop to her favourites list.
And the best part... Your original £8.99 mug sale has probably doubled in value.
Don't forget to add your contact details, or a QR code, to the reverse of the card and on the badge/ fridge magnet card - then Auntie Sarah may be so pleased with her gift that she becomes a customer herself and tells all her friends and family about you!
And finally, don't forget to add some gorgeous photos of your expert gift wrapping skills...You know it looks amazing, but many customers lack vision and need to see an image before clicking that button to buy.
We hope that's given you something to think about and if you do decide to add complementary items to your store, be sure to make them available in the variation menu - or post a link for the customer to easily add them to their order.
